Emissions — Calculations and snapshots

A snapshot is a frozen, dated capture of your carbon footprint at a precise moment. It is the cornerstone of your compliance: every official report, every year-over-year comparison and every piece of evidence presented to an auditor relies on a snapshot. Whereas your dashboard shows a live total that changes with every equipment or invoice you add, a snapshot no longer moves: it stands as proof.

This tab lets you generate these captures on demand, schedule them automatically and track how your emissions evolve over time.

dAio emissions calculations and snapshots

Tip: generate a first snapshot as soon as your equipment and invoices are entered. You instantly obtain a baseline against which to measure all future progress.

Why snapshots?

A constantly changing total cannot serve as evidence. The snapshot meets four concrete needs:

StakeWhat the snapshot guarantees
ComplianceRegulators (UAE MOCCAE, CSRD, SEC…) require a frozen, time-stamped report, not a moving estimate.
AuditA third-party auditor verifies a precise snapshot: the figures must not change between submission and review.
TrackingCompare your emissions month by month or year by year on a stable, consistent basis.
ReportsEvery official report is tied to a snapshot, ensuring end-to-end traceability.

Each snapshot is immutable: once calculated, it can no longer be modified. This is precisely what guarantees the integrity of your history and the evidentiary value of your reports.

What a snapshot contains

At the moment of calculation, dAio aggregates all of your data and freezes the result:

  • Total emissions expressed in tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e).
  • Breakdown by scope — Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (purchased energy) and, where applicable, Scope 3 (indirect emissions).
  • Reference year and the exact calculation date.
  • Snapshot type: manual, automatic or generated by a report.

Generate a manual snapshot

To freeze your footprint at time T:

  1. Open the Calculations tab.
  2. Click Create a snapshot.
  3. The calculation runs in a few seconds and aggregates all of your current data.
  4. The result is added to the top of the history, with its Scope 1 / Scope 2 / Total breakdown.

Warning: before generating a snapshot intended for a regulatory report, make sure all of your data is complete. Equipment whose annual hours are not filled in is not counted. Check the Equipment tab: incomplete entries are flagged in amber there.

Automatic scheduling

Rather than thinking about it manually, automate the capture of your snapshots. dAio then generates an automatic snapshot at the frequency and day you choose.

  1. In the Calculations tab, locate the Automatic scheduling card.
  2. Choose a frequency and the day of the month (from 1 to 28).
  3. Click Activate.
FrequencyCapture rhythm
MonthlyOne snapshot each month
QuarterlyOne snapshot every three months
BiannualOne snapshot every six months
AnnualOne snapshot once a year

Once scheduling is active, dAio displays the next run and the date of the last calculation. You can Modify the configuration at any time, or Delete it to return to manual mode.

Tip: align the capture day with your accounting close cycle (for example the 5th of the month), so each snapshot reflects invoices that have already been entered and validated.

Snapshot history

Below the settings, the history lists all of your snapshots, from the most recent to the oldest. Each entry shows:

  • The snapshot number and its reference year.
  • Its nature: manual, automatic or report-generated.
  • The Scope 1, Scope 2 and Total breakdown in tCO₂e.
  • The precise time stamp of the calculation.

This history is your audit trail: it documents the evolution of your footprint and the traceability of every figure declared.

Live snapshot or frozen snapshot?

It is essential to distinguish two concepts:

  • The live total, visible on the dashboard, recalculates continuously with every change to your data. It is for day-to-day steering.
  • The frozen snapshot, generated here, is an immutable photograph intended for compliance, audit and reports.

Warning: do not confuse the two. A report must always rely on a frozen snapshot. The live total, by nature, cannot be presented as evidence since it may change afterwards.

Best practices

  • Reference snapshot first: generate an initial capture as soon as your initial data is entered, to have a point of comparison.
  • Complete before freezing: check equipment, invoices and Scope 3 before each snapshot intended for official use.
  • Automate the rhythm: activate scheduling so you never miss a capture and build a regular history.
  • Compare over time: rely on the history to measure the real impact of your reduction actions from one period to the next.
  • Link your reports: once a reliable snapshot is established, move on to generating reports to turn it into a document presentable to a regulator.

Tip: once your snapshots are in place, explore the AI recommendations to identify the most cost-effective reduction levers, then measure their effect at the next snapshot.
